GAIL signs pact with Tata Institute of Social Sciences for collaboration in CSR

New Delhi, 23 August, 2010:- GAIL (India) Limited and Tata Institute of Social Sciences have inked a pact for collaborations in areas of Corporate Social Responsibility. This is first ever initiative of any Public Sector undertakings in the field of CSR activities. Shri S L Raina, Director (HR), GAIL and Dr. S Parsuraman, Director, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) have signed the MoU in presence of Shri B C Tripathi, Chairman and Managing Director GAIL (India) Limited, along with Shri R K Goel, Director (Finance), Shri R D Goyal Director (Projects), Shri Prabhat Singh, Director (Marketing), GAIL, Dr. S Bhowmik, Executive Director, TISS and other senior officials of GAIL.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri B C Tripathi, Chairman and Managing Director, GAIL said that this is a very significant move towards a meaningful contribution in this area. CSR has become a fashion these days but it needs to be taken as a passion. With 35 work establishments of GAIL, such a pact with TISS is going to help different site offices to develop passion for delivering the CSR goals of the company. He reiterated that beyond the business is something that we must talk and "as the first PSU to have signed a MoU with TISS, we look forward for its meaningful implementation and be satisfied ourselves rather than being praised by others in the area of Corporate Social Responsibilities".

Dr. S. Parsuraman, Director, Tata Institute of Social Sciences said that TISS has always been working with communities and groups and adding value through engagement of people. With signing of this agreement, GAIL has become one of the first institutions which has reposed so much faith in TISS, which has a very strong view that Indian PSUs are engines of growth and spearhead and strengthen the value of serving society.

With the signing of this agreement, TISS and GAIL will work towards assessing need and identification of projects in major GAIL work centers, undertake Impact Assessment Studies and draw up a standard CSR policy along GAIL’s major project routes and locations and create a guideline and parameters for reporting CSR activities to provide feedback on research findings.
